Diode Laser-Based Ketone and Aldehyde Detection
U. S. Patent 7,790,467, issued September 7,2010

Ketones and aldehydes are metabolic markers whose detection is of use for monitoring the health of diabetic patients and in other applications. This patent describes a method for detecting these compounds by passing the air sample through a reactor, then measuring the concentration of the reacted gas. This allows the sensitivity and stability of diode-laser-based gas measurement to be extended to these higher molecular weight compounds.
