Southwest Sciences, Inc., located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, has immediate openings for research scientists/engineers with a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related fields. Post-doctoral experience is a plus. Southwest Sciences offers competitive salaries commensurate with experience.
The successful candidates will work with our scientific staff in support of government and industrially-funded projects relating to atmospheric and climate change research, diagnostics of high-speed reacting flows, and development and application of new optically-based instrumentation for use on a variety of airborne and ground-based platforms. We have a particular interest in candidates who will both support our existing research and development efforts and will also begin to expand our capabilities and technologies through new research initiatives within two or three years of joining our team. Publication of research results in refereed journals and presentation at relevant scientific conferences is expected and highly valued. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are a must.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Strong background in experimental optical/laser spectroscopy.
- Experience in design of optical systems, including free space and fiber optics.
- Computer programming expertise in LabView (especially) and other programming languages or software packages (e.g., Matlab, Igor).
- Good familiarity with typical office software.
Desired Qualifications:
- Electronics design and/or microprocessor programming capabilities (C/C++).
- Experience in mechanical design and analysis.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong work ethic, with an ability to work independently and effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Contracts Administrator

Southwest Sciences, Inc., located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, has an immediate opening for a Contracts Administrator (part time, approximately 20 hours/week). Southwest Sciences is a small (currently 10 employees) independently-owned scientific research and development company with a 36-year history of serving U.S government clients as well as private industry. The Contracts Administrator will work with company management and our scientific staff in support of government and industrially-funded projects, as well as providing support as related to human resource and benefits matters. Specific duties include:
- Working closely with the company bookkeeper in billing contracts and in posting invoiced amounts to accounts receivable and sales
- Ensuring compliance with contract requirements and submitting reports and invoices via online government systems
- Maintaining and updating contract files and records
- Communicate in a liaison role with government or other customer contracting representatives (e.g., clarifying contract provisions, following up regarding payment, etc.)
- Assisting the company president in interacting with government auditors, including assistance in preparing annual incurred cost submissions
- Assist in setting up subcontract agreements and administering subcontracts (mostly with academic institutions)
- Interact with external providers of personnel benefits, including comprehensive group insurance, 401(k) profit sharing plan, payroll service provider, etc.
- Tracking and maintaining professional association and journal subscriptions
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or other relevant discipline
- Five or more years business experience
- Superior reading, writing, and language skills
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and precision
- Ability to organize and prioritize effectively
- Proven ability to use MS Office effectively (especially Word and Excel)
- General understanding of contracts and contractual language
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with federal contracting regulations, including the FAR
- Prior experience in administration of federal government contracts
